Scholarships to Transform a Community
#LeadershipInAction #TransformACommunity #LEADBrevard
In these challenging times we are all navigating through uncertainty; perhaps no one more so than leaders. Leaders are being asked to provide answers to questions about issues that weren’t on the radar or didn’t exist in the way they do now six months ago. LEAD Brevard is a nonprofit with a mission of working together to strengthen our community by inspiring people to lead. Your contribution to the Leadership Brevard scholarship fund provides a path for leaders to engage in the work of learning about issues, crafting solutions and taking action to make an impact. With a 35-year history of identifying and deploying leaders, Leadership Brevard has alumni working in areas like homelessness and affordable housing; environmental and sustainability issues and equity and inclusion. When there is a call to action in our community you may be sure that there are Leadership Brevard program graduates involved.
Scholarship funds remove economic barriers and make it possible for our program to serve more leaders of color and those representing marginalized populations. In 2021, 90 % of the scholarship awards were made to leaders of color. These leaders are protecting the rights of abused women and children, creating safe after school programs, pastoring a church and working as a sales director, having made the transition from homeless to a retail career. You can help us award scholarships to community leaders like these and more. All of these programs may be made accessible to persons in under-served populations if economic barriers are removed or reduced through scholarship awards.
Participation in the Leadership Brevard program can deepen a participant’s knowledge of Brevard, their civic engagement and leadership connections. The Leadership Brevard experience could help pave the way and open doors to expand participant’s community leadership and advocacy roles.
Objectives of the Leadership Brevard program are: Community; build bridges across public, private and nonprofit sectors, and across differences. Feel inspired and empowered to act by being a community steward - Issues; understand community issues and how they are interconnected, including how systemic racism impedes our ability to create a healthy community for all and Leadership; develop skills, tools and strategies to act as a leader and change agent in one’s own chosen area, including an ability to work with others to address challenges and build a more resilient and equitable county.
A majority of these funds were raised in pre –COVID times through our Leadership Award signature fundraiser; LEAD Brevard, like so many nonprofits, has made the difficult decision to cancel this ‘in-person’ event, in turn, making your gift even more meaningful.
With your help and funds to support scholarships, LEAD Brevard will continue to build a base of leadership with leaders who are prepared to address the challenges we face today and tomorrow.
Help us transform a community through leadership by making your contribution today. Members of the class, this year and next, have an unprecedented opportunity to make a leadership impact; you can make it possible for them to do so. We will look back on this time when community leadership made all the difference in outcome and growth of our community.
