Imagine living in a world where you feel forgotten, a place not meant for human habitation, where uncertainty is the only thing of which you can be certain. Existing in a situation that leaves you wondering where you will sleep and your next meal will come from, or if it will even come at all. Imagine living in such a world homeless, separated from family and friends, or navigating your environment with a mental illness, alone on the street. Now imagine living in such a world during a natural disasters or catastrophic events. This is the plight of 3,500,000 estimated homeless Americans. (37% of the homeless are families with children, while 63% are veterans and individual adults).
As San Bernardino/Riverside County's low income communities continues to experience record high and low temperatures year round, we must not forget the thousands of homeless individuals forced to spend frigid nights on the streets or riverbeds, and exposed to extreme heat during the summer. Because of their precarious housing situations they face hunger, death, life threatening illnesses, medical complications, rape, human trafficking and abuse. We believe that by registering, communicating and alerting both the public and homeless using NECON’s technology, public registry and www.HomelessEmergencyLifelineProgram.info, we can better help this under served population of our community and nation as we grow our organization.
National Emergency Communications Organization Network Inc. is dedicated to family reunification and saving lives by providing an innovative emergency disaster alert and communication system, including creative grassroots educational workshops that offer targeted information to help the public stay informed about disaster safety and preparedness.
While many cities do provide some degree of emergency alerts, they are often mass marketed communications that are neither targeted nor effective and they discriminate, only individuals with new smart phone can receive an emergency alert. NECON's system is secure and easy to use, local volunteers, homeless shelter staff and/or local agencies can now warn the community of upcoming extreme weather conditions, evacuation transportation, food banks, mental health clinics, or notify them of open disaster shelter locations in real time.
