The NECON multimedia art Initiative is a grassroots campaign and contest aimed at inspiring students, local artists and the public to create meaningful art reflecting their community and culture, and why emergency preparedness is important to the individual and the community. We hope to encourage, inspire, and educate the public about emergency preparedness through artistic mediums such as paintings, illustrations, posters, and short films to name a few. We believe emergency preparedness public services messages should not be one size fits all. The contest will be held 4 times a year and we hope to offer a series of rewards to participants who develop the most insightful, and inspiring pieces of art. We are confident that through art, we can help foster a culture of emergency preparedness. The multimedia art Initiative was inspired by NECON's Founder, Debra Watkins who is an artist and innovator.  Influenced by vintage WWII posters encouraging civic responsibility and virtue. These posters were aimed at influencing public behavior for the better; and we believe that emergency preparedness education can benefit from such outside€ the box thinking. We want to inspire, as well as educate the public on the importance of emergency preparedness.
