North Country Animal League (NCAL) is an animal welfare organization dedicated to promoting compassionate and responsible relationships between humans and animals through adoptions, education and outreach, spay/neuter and sheltering of homeless animals. Since 1994, more than 14,000 homeless dogs and cats have found adoptive homes through NCAL.

As a small nonprofit we rely on the generosity of our donors to support our lifesaving work. 60% of our annual budget is funded through gifts from the individuals, companies and foundations. In the midst of the pandemic, Raise the Woof has replaced our annual gala as our largest fundraising event and a critical source of funding for our organization. This benefit event raises vital dollars for NCAL's Annual Fund, which provides shelter, veterinary care, nutrition, TLC and adoption services for our homeless animals in need until they are ready to find forever homes. Please join us and be an advocate for the hundreds of animals who will depend on us in 2022.

Your support allows us to provide quality care for each animal that arrives through our doors while following best practices in the field of animal welfare and and maintaining high health and safety standards to protect our staff and community. No matter what an animal’s circumstance, be it severe illness or injury or behavioral challenges for under-socialized animals, "the individual needs of each pet are addressed to give them the best second chance to live a full and healthy life.

We understand that in order to help animals in need, we must also serve the people in our community. Both NCAL’s Equine Center and Pet Adoption Center offer multiple humane education opportunities throughout the year for young community members. Our programs teach children and young adults how to care for their pets with a sense of responsibility and empathy, as well as advocate for animal welfare in their community and the wider world. 221 local children participated in humane education programs at NCAL in 2021. In addition to humane education, we are meeting the needs of our community by addressing food insecurity for the pets of low-income residents in Lamoille County. In 2021, NCAL provided 50 tons of free pet food through NCAL Meals, a pet food assistance program that now provide nutritious meals for over 70 community-owned cats and dogs each month.
