Yahara House's mission is to transform the lives of people living with mental illness by replacing despair, stigma and isolation with hope, dignity, and community. Much more than simply a program or a social service, Yahara House is a community of people who are working together to achieve some common goals:
Those Yahara House serve are not patients nor clients, but are members of the Clubhouse. Yahara House is about collaboration and working together as equals - which is why staff and members work side by side as colleagues in the running of the Clubhouse. Together we prepare a daily lunch for 40+ people, take on reception work and public relations, keep program statistics, offer banking services, produce videos, and more! Yahara House is accredited by Clubhouse International, which ensures the continued consistency and quality of the Clubhouse experience (http://www.iccd.org/about.html). Currently, there are more than 327 Clubhouse model programs in 33 countries around the world. The Clubhouse model is an evidence-based practice, which is recognized by the Substance Abuse/Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
