Support Compound LB 501c3 -

A cultural complex for individual transformation and social belonging.

Compound believes that individual transformation seeds resilient communities. We nourish bodies, minds, and community connections through contemporary art experiences, wellness programming, and food equity initiatives.

We are located in the Zaferia District of Long Beach, just off of Anaheim on Coronado Avenue. Our neighborhood is one of the most diverse and vibrant in the city. An intergenerational community of artists, practitioners, creators, and thinkers contribute to the richness of the Compound experience.

Compound provides free and sliding scale programming including: contemporary art exhibitions and workshops, wellness classes, food fairs with healthy recipe demonstrations and food distribution, and community markets. We are an accessible, community-oriented third place promoting connection, belonging, curiosity, and growth.

Compound Programs:

  • Wellness Collective: Sliding scale community-oriented wellness classes that include accessible and mindful programs like Tai Chi, Drumming, Seated Dance, Breathwork, and Meditation. These programs are rigorously researched to provide comprehensive physical and mental benefits to participants and to be accessible to a wide range of audiences across all ages.

  • Food Fairs: Monthly events that offer healthy cooking demonstrations with our renowned chef featuring fresh, local produce in addition to robust packages of both perishable and non-perishable items distributed to food insecure families, and art making activities for young people to participate in while their adults attend the demonstration.

  • Art for All: Art-making workshops led by renowned artists in our regional community and designed to build opportunities for collaboration amongst visitors of all ages and skill levels.

  • Biannual Exhibitions: Twice yearly exhibitions with artists from Southern California and beyond that provide opportunities for experimental and immersive extensions of their practices through commissioning and presenting platforms. Exhibitions take over Compound’s campus and integrate with offerings across wellness and culinary. Exhibitions inspire and enrich visitors’ experience and provide educational opportunities.

  • Drop-in Creative Exchange: Compound hosts free Open Mic nights and Drop-in Drawing sessions weekly that offer opportunities for community members to showcase their own creativity and build bonds with their fellow local creatives.

  • Community Market: Quarterly markets highlight local makers and small businesses in a vibrant community atmosphere replete with DJs and art activities. All proceeds go directly to the vendors, and in 2025 we have started to showcase more reciprocal services with artists and makers offering their goods and services in an exchange market. Mutual indebtedness and service exchange has been shown to support and establish a sense of belonging.

Compound is a restorative space for healing, reflection, and connection, embracing all who visit according to our Policy of Belonging, a commitment to equity, accessibility, and inclusion. We seek to unite mind, body and spirit, creating profound connections with both self and community.

We gratefully acknowledge that we are on the indigenous sacred ground of the Tongva people and strive to honor this heritage.
