Sierra Nevada Alliance End of the Year Giving

Sierra Nevada Alliance was envisioned in 1993, the Sacramento Bee had just published Tom Knudson's Pulitzer Prize-winning series, "The Sierra in Peril" and Congress had directed a cadre of scientists under the management of the University of California at Davis to produce the Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project (SNEP) report.  It is from the growing recognition of the Sierra's environmental problems that the Alliance was created,  with a big vision- to unite local conservation groups into a powerful network to save the Sierra.

Today the Alliance is a hub for Sierra stewardship.  The Alliance provides Sierra citizens and conservation organizations with news, education, trainings, resources and coordination to elevate Sierra conservation and restoration.

It has been an amazing year at the Sierra Nevada Alliance, Thanks to our supporters!

2019 marked our 26th year of protecting and restoring the Range of Light.  Whether you've been with us since the beginning, five years, one month, or this is the first time you are learning of our work, we're glad you're here.

Together with the help of our supporters, we have: 

• Maintained a robust AmeriCorps Program with 550 acres restored , 61,792 individuals educated, and 3,273 volunteers recruited and supported.
• Continued to build our conservation Member Groups to over 40 organizations providing improved resources, trainings, and coordination.
• Marched forward with climate work, working with jurisdictions to inventory and develop climate action plans to reach the 100% community wide resolution goals we helped set.
• Obtained funding, thanks to the Sierra Nevada Conservancy to develop a new forestry workforce development pace and scale program for the Sierra.

Looking forward, we are excited about our new, ambitious Five-Year Strategic Plan, slated to begin in January 2020. Some of our horizon goals include:

• Work on expanding and building off of our AmeriCorps Program:
• Provide an even greater supply of talented staff to implement the  tremendous amount of on-the-ground conservation work needed to create the resilient Sierra we desire;
• Work more diligently on providing greater capacity-building resources for our Member Groups;
• Represent our Member Groups in the advocacy arena; and 
• Build out more regional frameworks for watershed, forest health, wildlife, climate action and adaptive management planning for the region.

Your support is more critical than ever.  Key programs like our Community Engagement Program, Regional Climate Resiliency Program, and new Sierra Corps Forestry Program need your kind contributions to make the greatest impact!

Moving Forward, the Alliance plans to strengthen the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership and Alliance Member Group Programs.  The Alliance will take on a stronger role in organizing and mobilizing the conservation community around important policy and legislature to protect and restore Sierra Nevada ecosystems.  Save the Date for a Sierra Nevada Lobby Day on February 4th, 2020 to bring more funding and protection for the Sierra we all love! In addition, we aim to update relevant science publications, launch a new interactive website hub for the Sierra, make significant impacts for climate change resiliency, and execute crucial Sierra forestry resilience projects to increase pace and scale on the ground.
