Hello. I'm Max Engel and I am part of the Philanthropy Track of the Jewish Teen Foundation. This is an organization that raises money for a specific cause. I'm very excited to be part of this program and meet people and have experiences that I will never forget. This year, my fellow members and I have decided that we will be focusing on helping the homeless mainly here, in the Bay Area.
- In 2019, San Francisco reported 8,011 homeless people met the federal definition of homeless, an increase of 17 percent from 2017.
- San Francisco has the highest population of people experiencing homeless in the Bay Area.
- According to Business Insider, the Bay Area is home to the most expensive places to live in America.
The issue of homelessness is really important to me. Every time I go to San Francisco, I see many people experiencing homelessness. It affects me because it makes me very sad for them and I am very fortunate to have a comfortable home where I go to bed every night knowing that I'll be doing this again tomorrow. It sickens me that it is so expensive to live here and that there are many wealthy people here. With your help, we can help solve this problem by providing healthcare, vocational services, and housing. This year, JTF is committed to JTF is committed to assisting individuals and families experiencing homelessness who have been displaced by climate change or are living with mental health or addition issues, through advocacy and direct service organizations. JTF’s grantmaking efforts will prioritize housing, healthcare, and vocational services. Any amount is deeply appreciated and I am very grateful that we can make a change. Thank you very much!
