Voting Rights and Registration

CU has led multiple campaigns over the years centered on voter engagement and registration. Our current campaign is Vota por 2 or Vote for 2. Read below for more information about our current efforts. 

Mission: To provide Utah’s Latinx community with comprehensive voter education information and leadership development opportunities that can help integrate and activate tomorrow’s leaders.

Vision: To help Utah’s Latinx community understand and acknowledge the power behind civic participation. Through the promotion of civic participation we aim to inspire, train, and support a new wave of leaders that sound like us, look like us, and can represent our shared values to strengthen the foundation through which we carry out our mission.

Background: Historically marginalized communities continue to face obstacles when engaging in economic, political, and social systems. Due to clear inconsistencies with the availability of equitable access to resources and information Utah’s Latinx community continues to struggle to find ways to raise its voice. 

Throughout our work we have understood that the communities we serve believe in civic participation just as much as we do. However, without an adequate investment of resources our communities will continue to face the same barriers. 

In order to continue to enhance the opportunities that Utah’s Latinx community experiences, Comunidades Unidas has embarked on a mission to provide long term civic participation platforms. Through our “Vota por 2” voter education campaign we aim to engage eligible voters in the political process through the dissemination of culturally appropriate information so that voters can make informed decisions when going to the polls. Similarly, through our Promotorx leadership training we provide community members of all backgrounds the opportunity to learn and expand their leadership abilities to help advance the needs of the communities we serve.
