As part of a summer internship I am doing with Engage Globally, I am raising money to support women's opportunities in Northern Ghana. Engage Globally is an NGO that focuses on community-led sustainable development, and has created a vocational program where women can learn skills in making clothing, handbags, masks, and other crafts that they can sell in their local communities. Once they have completed their training, many of the women go on to start their own businesses. This year, there are eighteen students who are participating in the vocational program. Donations from this fundraiser go towards tuition, required supplies for their field, transportation funding, and mentoring by a local staff member. The average cost for a student is about $500 a year.

This is an important cause to me, as I am a huge proponent of education and training as a way of expanding opportunities. The vocational program is a great way for women to learn skills that they can use to support themselves. Another passion of mine and the focus of my internship is on sustainable fashion. Supporting and promoting local seamstresses is one way that we can help reduce waste and emissions associated with clothing, as the materials they use tend to be recycled or second-hand.

Please consider donating to this fundraiser. It would mean a lot to me, and I really believe in the Vocational Program, as well as all the work that Engage Globally does in Ghana.
