In the Bull City, we know how to show up.  Whether we are supporting the latest local business opening, marching for a cause, or teaming up to help a family in crisis, Durham neighbors know how to be there for one another.  

Since 2012, Rebound has provided a way for the community to show up when students high school students are struggling to stay connected to school.  In fact, Rebound began when one parent who needed a safe place for her child during a school suspension met another Durham parent who knew how to help.  

7 years, later, Durham has developed a unique model in which the schools and community work side by side to provide buffering support to students working to stay connected to school despite the setback of a suspension.  We have also expanded services to help prevent stress and conflict from leading to a suspension at all.     

When we provide circles of support for students who have been suspended, we help not only the student and family, but the entire system.  Research shows that efforts to reduce the use of suspension within a school improve the whole school climate, with improved outcomes for all students.    

We already know that we are a city committed to creating the best outcome for each of our neighbors.
