Child abuse is not something most people want to think about, let alone talk about. But it is happening — more often than most of us realize — right here in our own communities.

I joined the Comfort House board in June 2025, and this June I stepped into the role of Board President. What has struck me most in this past year is how much intention goes into every part of what Comfort House does: teaching children in grades K-12 to recognize and name abuse through prevention education, and providing a safe place for abused children to tell their story while the strong multidisciplinary team supports them, their family, and the pursuit of justice.

I have spent my entire life in the Southern Indiana and Louisville communities, and knowing that a resource like Comfort House exists here — ready for the child who needs it most — matters deeply to me. As Board President, my job is to make sure Comfort House has what it needs to keep showing up for these kids: strong governance, sustainable funding, and a community that knows we're here.

It's not an easy topic to talk about. But Comfort House gives children the opportunity and COMFORT to do just that.
