Hello, my name is Ann Bordin and I am doing my Girl Scout Gold Award. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. I will be addressing the issue of the children's obesity epidemic.  The Children's obesity epidemic is an issue that I find not not many people are addressing. More than one-third of children in grades 1-12 suffer from obesity. Compared with children at a healthy weight those who are overweight or obese are at a higher risk for a range of health problems, including asthma, heart disease, and some types of cancer; they also are more likely to become overweight or obese adults. There are many factors that influence children's obesity such as genetics and a poor diet but one of the biggest is lack of exercise. This is why I am renovating this Girl Scout Camps so children will grow and learn to love playing outside and therefore learn to love exercise. I plan to upgrade the playground at Girl Scout Camp Wai Lani. I have been going to this camp for over 10 years. I have made so many amazing memories at this camp. Unfortunately over the years, things had to be taken away from the playground due to it needing updating or repairs. The picture below shows the only swing set and slides that are left. I want kids to stop playing on their phones and tablets and enjoy the outdoors so they can make amazing memories at this camp just like I was able to when I was there age. For my project, I will need around $4,000 for the supplies and renovation money. This project will help future Girl Scouts not only learn to loving being active but also make great memories while doing so!
