Food For COVID-19 Affected Families (JROMSA)

Tembisa is one of South Africa's largest townships and with the lockdown all people are ordered to stay at home, putting the most vulnerable families, who earn less than $5 a day and rely on the informal economy to survive at immediate danger of not having any food during the crisis. 

Jesus Refuge Orphanage Mission South Africa (JROMSA) is responding by making emergency relief packs for distribution to the most vulnerable children and families. 

Our estimate is there are 80,000 people in immediate need of urgent help...

As South Africa goes deep into its lockdown to combat the spread of COVID-19, 1 in 4 families will not have access to any income and will rely on the government for support. However, with very limited resources and dealing with a health emergency, local governments are already at a breaking point.

We are directly supporting families and households by delivering emergency food packs to those who cannot afford or get a hold of food. 

A project of this magnitude requires highly motivated and well coordinated groups of people to work closely together in an organized and efficient way to realize our goal of feeding the hungry. 

Another challenge is that of working with communities that one is not culturally and socially familiar with. There is the danger of failing to follow quarantine protocols to keep everyone safe, and failing to ensure the fair and equal distribution of food, which has corresponding follow-on effects.

Here's what we're doing about it!

To negate these challenges and ensure the safe delivery of thousands of meals to those most in need, we’ve partnered with several brilliant organizations to form The JROMSA, our food distribution network.

We forged relationships with wholesale fresh produce markets and transport companies to ensure good food is able to be sourced and delivered at the most competitive prices possible, negating markups and delivery inefficiencies.

And now, the last partner that we need, is you!

All it takes is $1000 to fund a truckload of food that will provide 1,000 meals. That's $ 500 to feed 1,000 people,  Our starting target is ($ 20,000), which is enough to provide 10,000 meals.
