My name is Doug Ward, proud father of 3 including my daughter Larissa, now age 18,  who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2.  I am also an avid runner and finisher of 14 marathons. Through past marathons I've been fortunate to raise a total of over $30,000 for autism research. I hope you will consider supporting me in my latest effort as I run the 2019 New Jersey Marathon on April 28th in support of Jawonio's Early Intervention Play, Learning and Therapy space.

Let me tell you a little bit about Jawonio, and why I am running. The word Jawonio is the Native American word for Independence. Jawonio is a Rockland County, NY based non-profit that provides incredible and life changing therapies and services for children like Larissa.

Since 1947, Jawonio has been dedicated to advancing the independence, well-being, and equality of people with disabilities and special needs, and provides care for over 10,000 people with special needs each year. And while Jawonio supports all ages and stages in education, residential, day programs and employment, my run is all about and for the kids at Jawonio now and in the future.

With this run, I am hoping to raise $10,000 in support of the Jawonio Early Intervention Play, Learning and Therapy space for 18 month to 3 year old children in their new building. Jawonio is "Building for Tomorrow" and undergoing a much-needed transformation of their entire campus. This will bring health care for special needs into the future for children with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and chronic medical needs. Jawonio provides early intervention, evaluation and treatment services through in-home and center-based models in individual and group settings.

Please join me in fighting for children with special needs and make a donation to the Jawonio Foundation today.  I am so grateful to be able to run it forward and pay it forward to make a difference in the lives of children and families with special needs. Thank you.
