$3,000 goal

During this pandemic there have been so many unknowns and destabilization of the resources our families have depended on such as, food, shelter,  and job security. It has been the mission of MCYC since the March to retain our focus on the needs and safety of our community's youth and families. Through our food access work, we have been working with federal, state, and local funding resources to establish regular access to nutritious food for families affected by this pandemic. Your donation will not only grow new programing, but it will continue to support the school district in its efforts to provide for youth and families throughout the school year and beyond.

Want to know how far your donation will go?

  • $25.00 will feed a family of 4 with the Weekend Backpack Program
  • $100.00 will feed a local family for a month
  • $500.00 will feed 20 families or help support the community dinner campaign

Backpack Weekend Meals

Backpacks would cost about $25/family/week. A typical backpack to feed a family of four might include: 4 pounds of ground meat, 4 cans of fruit, fresh seasonal vegetables, a gallon of milk, a dozen eggs, a pound of cheese, a loaf of bread, a pound of deli meat, and other pantry staples to cover lunches and dinners. A typical breakfast allowance might include a piece of fresh fruit, a cereal bar, and yogurt for each family member each day for 3 breakfasts. We plan to distribute 25 backpacks each week based on current need.

Community Dinner

Community dinners have always been open to anyone regardless of documented need, and we plan to continue that tradition. All of us are facing hardship this year due to COVID-19, and having at least one meal available to anyone who wants it is helpful to all. It’s especially helpful to adults in low income households, as the additional food support through the district cannot go toward those 18 or older. This program feeds an entire family. We help maintain dignity for all who participate by not collecting any personal information or requiring any documentation to participate; anyone who wants a meal is welcome to one. Our quarterly dinners typically serve between 400-600 people. We anticipate a similar turnout to a takeout-style community dinner.
