This is not about charity, or a helping hand. This is about building a community where everyone is safe, supported, valued, and cherished. Where Black Lives Matter.

This is about transformation. This year, we have seen the disparate impact that two global pandemics — COVID and racism — are having on our community. And while COVID touches families and communities across cultures, incomes and identities, we know that because of systemic racism, it has hit communities of color the hardest.

If you're like us, you may have new understanding of how generations of white advantage and other privileges have helped secure your health and finances and undermined others'. BIPOC members of our community are being disproportionately impacted by COVID cases and deaths, unemployment, and the risk of eviction. This is wrong. And maybe you're wondering what your role can be in righting these injustices – here's one small opportunity now.

At Freedom Inc., “our community is our campaign.” Freedom Inc. invests in Black and Southeast Asian leadership and community to build racial justice, queer justice, and gender justice. Doing this requires addressing immediate needs too, like:

...a weekly food pantry that distributes food and PPE to hundreds of individuals

...wellness pop-ups to provide grocery cards and household supplies

...500 backpacks with school supplies to support 300 families in virtual learning

...support for survivors of domestic violence with care for their identities, languages, genders, generations and cultures

And despite the challenges and the pain of facing two global pandemics, Freedom Inc. has continued to find joy and celebrate community, including in this holiday season.

Please join me in supporting Freedom Inc.'s work to build power, community, and joy. None of us are free until we are all free.

“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.” — Audre Lorde
