I grew up in West Louisville and because I lived in a one-parent home, my brother, sister and I didn't always get the things we wanted. My mother did the very best she could working with what she had. We never went without the necessities and for that I am grateful.
Before I started this organization via other non-profit work I was involved in, I encountered people who didn't have the necessities that every human being is entitled. God kept those people on my heart and gave me a way to help. A Hand Up was born out of a desire to make a difference in the lives of individuals who live from paycheck to paycheck; working every day and having to make sacrifices that leave them or their families hopeless and stuck in a cycle of poverty. Whether we are helping pay past due utility bills or offering financial education to adults and youth, we understand that there are times when everyone needs a hand up.
The Give For Good fundraiser helps us to provide financial education for the residents of some of Louisville's lowest-income neighborhoods. Our Homeownership program prepares the residents of this community to begin to take the necessary steps to own property. We know that homeownership leads to greater financial stability, stronger communities, and increased generational wealth. It empowers families to build equity, invest in their future, and create a sense of pride and belonging in their neighborhoods.
Your donation will help us teach individuals how to fish so they can fish for themselves and, therefore, no longer need the assistance of organizations such as ours. Everyone is entitled to a decent standard of living!
I appreciate your generosity!
