Hi all,

This year for my 24th birthday, I am doing a little fundraiser for Havenly Treats. I hope you'll consider joining me in supporting the multifaceted and essential work they do. Started by some of my amazing peers from Yale and local refugee women, Havenly Treats' mission is "to help refugee and immigrant women prosper, uplift their families, and shape their communities."  I am in awe of this project, and as the granddaughter of someone who was a refugee, I would love to use my birthday as a chance to support Havenly Treats' work.

From their About Us:

"Refugees in New Haven (and in the rest of the U.S.) continue to be marginalized and denied access to basic rights. As an organization, we seek to create the conditions that will make it possible for refugee women to set the priorities and strategies of their own movement for change. We know that as mothers and as migrants, they hold a depth of knowledge and wisdom that has the power to transform society into one that is more just for all.

We seek to break out of U.S.-based models of refugee integration that prioritize rapid employment and economic self-sufficiency over longer-term education and political consciousness development. Our collaborative, non-profit food business serves as a learning space, source of income and advocacy network for refugee women. All our programming is developed in close partnership between staff and the women we serve."

They've also launched a food relief program during the pandemic.

And as a former New Haven cafe dweller, I especially love this sentiment that guides their work:

"Cafes have been sites of organizing, learning and political debate for centuries. In a similar way, we envision our cafe being a place where political education and organizing led by the women in our community can happen in new, creative and collaborative ways."

Please consider supporting their holiday sales as well (https://www.havenlytreats.com/holiday)!

With love,

Erin
