Aaron Becker - NPJTF

Our mission this year is to promote positive social change by protecting the environment and responding to the needs of people affected by environmental problems locally, globally, and in Israel.

This year, I have the opportunity to be a member of the board of the North Peninsula Jewish Teen Foundation (NPJTF), an organization for Jewish teens in the Bay Area to practice Jewish philanthropy. We are learning philanthropy through the process of raising and donating money to suitable Jewish and Non-Jewish organizations all over the world. In addition to learning the skills involved in giving to organizations, I learned many important skills, including improving the environment, engaging with current issues, and coming to consensus. This year, our primary focus is the environment. Personally, I believe that these issues are extremely important because they are not only affecting people in distant countries, they are also affecting many people in our local area. There are many prevalent environmental issues in the world today, including:

    -In Sonoma County, the recent wildfires destroyed 6,600 structures

    -The recent Hurricane Harvey in Texas caused one-third of Houston to be underwater in the first 24 hours, forcing 39,000 people out of their homes

    -Hurricane Harvey caused more than 180 billion dollars in damages

    -Over the last 50 years, Jordan’s River’s annual flow has dropped from more than 1.3 billion cubic meters per year to less than 30 million cubic meters due to drought and diversion of water.

Using your donation, the NPJTF will give grants to suitable organizations that address environmental issues in the world today.
