This pandemic is hard enough when you're food secure, but the added issue of food insecurity challenges many people's lives. Havenly is tackling this issue for New Haven.
Havenly breaks out of U.S.-based models of refugee integration that prioritize rapid employment and economic self-sufficiency over longer-term education and political consciousness development. They are a collaborative, non-profit food business that serves as a learning space, source of income, and advocacy network for refugee women from across the world. 100% of their programming is developed in close partnership between staff and the women they serve.
How Havenly benefits the New Haven community:
- Food Relief Program: Havenly provides 600 meals a week to more than 200 families
- Fellowship Program: Havenly is currently training 6 refugee women to help them develop their careers and find jobs to best support their families
- Advocacy & Alumni Program: Havenly creates a network for refugees and immigrants to find support in their new community
Like many local businesses, Havenly has been hit hard by the effects of the pandemic, and they need help to get through the winter. This giving season, please join me in donating to Havenly. If each of us donates even $10, we can help support the 12 refugee women and more than 40 children, and ensure that over 7,000 meals are donated this winter.
