ID Ghana has helped thousands of families to escape from poverty for good thanks to its microloan, business training and health awareness services driven by an innovative social vision. ID Ghana strives to empower marginalized urban poor in Ghana through income-generating activities: diversifying opportunities, ensuring market outlets and helping enterprises reach financial viability. 98% of ID Ghana's client-partners are women.
More broadly, ID Ghana aims to help micro-entrepreneurs improve their families' living conditions on an overall and long-term basis. Client-partners attend monthly training sessions with trusted peer educators and collaborate to build skills, resolve everyday problems and make healthy choices for their children. Weekly awareness-raising sessions on health and social themes involve interactive discussions, and participants identify the best educational, hygiene and social practices to then adopt at home and in their enterprises.
There are challenges to meet growing demand on several fronts. Current beneficiaries have increasing capital requirements as they re-develop their businesses. New microentrepreneurs in existing activity areas come into the fold and request ID Ghana's assistance, as do families in new areas of coverage. This strong demand is an endorsement of the upward trajectory of success for ID Ghana's mission, but it also requires new financial and human resources. I am conducting this fundraising campaign to help ensure the sustainability of this valuable mission for years to come.
