Greetings!
I’ve spent many years telling myself I’m not a typical “athlete.”
Then one year ago, I pedaled my bike across Iowa--where I learned the state is NOT flat. Up & down non-stop hills and in the extreme heat of July, for a full week I biked!
And I proved to myself, that I’m whatever kind of athlete I want to be.
Still, when I finished & dipped my bike tire in the Mississippi River, if you had told me I’d be back this year, I’d have said you were crazy!!
But here I am, biking across Iowa for a second time.
WHY?
Turns out, I love to bike—I like the opportunity to get in shape, and to challenge myself mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
But more importantly, I am truly honored to ride again with TEAM ALMA who bikes across Iowa in RAGBRAI each year to end domestic violence and support peaceful change.
I ask you to further this mission by making a mile pledge in support of my (second!) ride.
Whatever you donate is fabulous! I appreciate every penny you can give!
For more than 20 years I’ve worked with survivors of domestic violence and trained in violence prevention and resolution initiatives. In that time I have often reflected on ways we can transform the cycle of violence in our families and communities. The Alma Center deeply understands trauma as a root cause of violence, and takes a whole person approach to healing, I believe in this solution, and feel compelled to support this important work.
I hope you feel it too, and join me in support of breaking the cycle of violence.
Of course, the second ride is bound to be full of it’s own adventure. Watch for my facebook updates as we pedal!
With deepest gratitude,
Jayne
