It's not sexy. It's not flashy. But there are expenses just to operate and exist as a nonprofit. We get a number of services, fees, and equipment donated which enables us to keep the overall administrative bloat to a minimum. This fundraiser accounts for all of our expected costs for the 2020 financial year.
Creating Survivors is: an IRS-501(c)3; mental health and suicide prevention; charity. Established in 2013, our mission is to help young people overcome adversity.
By 2017, Creating Survivors had achieved huge progress. In a population of nearly 20,000 young people: we helped reduce the cost of mental health services for those young people by 90%; while we built the structure for a sustainable and now operating mental health peer-support program that is open to chat when doctors and providers are not. We achieved both by building infrastructure in an institution of higher learning: a body of patients, clinicians, and policy makers that continually - and now proven effectively - monitor, update, and constantly improve mental health services for the whole community.
By contributing to this fundraiser, and to Creating Survivors, you will enable us to continue to do the great work we have been doing. Any donation amount makes a difference, and if a larger amount is not feasible for you, consider making a smaller monthly donation throughout the remainder of the year.

We started in 2011 as just an idea a 19-year-old had to help other young people afford counseling. In 2018, Creating Survivors became bicoastal with operations in Washington, D.C. and California. In 2020, we will be expanding to New York as we evolve into Thriver - same mission; bigger impact; sustainable. This evolution will bring on a handful of new programs including: an arts program working to represent marginalized voices and identities by producing art that heals; an educational arm creating curriculum and tools to help instill resilience into young people's daily lives; an environmental program advocating for conscientious consumerism to help make sure there's still a planet to live on for the next generation after they've learned to thrive into adulthood; and much much more.
