The Western Mass Bailout Project needs your help to raise $7,500 in donations by the end of the year, making it possible for us to free eight people from pretrial detention in the Franklin and Hampshire County jails. (And once those bails are returned, we’ll be able to free even more people.)
Our funds are low, and our cash flow can be unpredictable. The pandemic caused a backlog of court hearings, and dates continue to be pushed back. These delays prevent us from collecting bails we posted as long as a year ago.
We make every effort to post at least five bails per month, but the current need is greater than our resources.
Community members detained pretrial are counting on us to post bail consistently, and we need your help. Please make a donation today or share our fundraiser with others.
Securing this critical funding by the end of the year will also allow us to focus more of our efforts on political education and coalition-building.
The bail fund is a vital decarceration strategy in Western Mass. It gets people out of jail and serves as an organizing tool for ending pretrial incarceration. Your donation directly contributes to the liberation of individuals detained by the state.
Because we are fiscally sponsored by the Peace Development Fund, all donations are tax-deductible.
Thank you for helping us get people out of jail, and for your solidarity in the fight for liberation, joy, and abolition of the carceral system.
