At the Sanctuary, we are firm believers that spending time outside isn’t just enjoyable but also very necessary! Being outdoors and exploring the natural world with children enriches their lives. Many researchers would agree that children who play outside are happier, more attentive, and less anxious than children who spend more time indoors.

Spending time outdoors:

• improves motor skills
• builds confidence
• promotes imagination
• gets kids moving
• increases appreciation for the environment

The mission of the Ohio Bird Sanctuary is to create an environment of learning and interaction with nature that generates within people, especially children, a desire to be compassionate and good citizens of our natural world. We accomplish this goal through providing innovative environmental education programs both at the Sanctuary and off-site.  

The Sanctuary’s on-site programs include:

• Field Trips
• Preschool Programs
• Home School Programs
• Camps
• Family Workshops
• Junior Naturalist Program

The Sanctuary also visits many schools, libraries, assisted living facilities, camps, daycares, and more!

Our goal is to continue providing opportunities to engage children and youth of all ages and abilities with nature.

How your donations support our youth programs:

• Craft & Activity Supplies: A gift of $25 helps purchase new craft and activity supplies for camps and in-school programs.
• Ashley Cooperrider Scholarship: A gift of $150 sends a deserving child to Nature Camp for learning and outdoor fun.
• Junior Naturalist Field Experiences: A donation of $250 sponsors a field trip for youth 13-17 years old.
• New Binoculars: A gift of $500 provides new binoculars for our on-site programs.
