About The Show: "Faerie"

Alight dance theater (ADT) is thrilled to dive into the world of “Faerie” where we tackle notions of identity and aim to break down stereotypes, all within the mythical fairy realm. "Faerie" puts a lens to centuries of storytelling to feature the multi-dimensionality of these mythical creatures, and tackle misconceptions of how feminine characters are portrayed.

Alight has been fortunate to have opportunities to explore and build the creative material of "Faerie." Most notably, during our NextLOOK grant residency in May 2018 - supported by The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and Joe's Movement Emporium - alight received funding for artistic research and community-based workshops to develop "Faerie." These workshops were parent/child oriented, aiming to build connections between generations while using movement and visual art to explore themes related to the production.

How You Can Support "Faerie"

Alight will debut the full-length performances of "Faerie" on April 13th & April 14th, 2019 at Joe's Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier, MD.

Concept and choreography by Matina Phillips (Artistic Director) and Eleni Grove (Associate Artistic Director), "Faerie" will include seven professional dancers and one student performer.

We need your support to assist with expenses associated with:

- PRODUCTION [theater rental, studio rentals, costumes, set, props, music]

- PERSONNEL [dancers, directors, production designers, stage manager]

- COMMUNITY [materials for community engagement workshops]

- MARKETING & ARCHIVAL NEEDS [photography, videography, printing]

Special Events Supporting "Faerie"

Leading up to our April performances, alight will host several special events to contribute to fundraising efforts, while simultaneously connecting with community members about the work. These events will be movement-related, pay-what-you-can, and inter-generational -- essentially, meant for all people of all ages!

1. ) 12:00-1:00p | All-levels yoga class led by Eleni Grove

2. ) 2:00-3:00p | Guardian/child movement class (ages 6 & up) exploring themes of Faerie, led by Matina Phillips and Eleni Grove. No prior movement experience necessary.

Cost: Pay-What-You-Can

When: Sunday, March 3rd, 2019

Where: Joe's Movement Emporium

What: 2:30-3:30p | Guardian/child movement class (ages 6 & up) exploring themes of Faerie, led by Matina Phillips and Eleni Grove. No prior movement experience necessary.

Cost: FREE (With assistance in buying performance tickets post-workshop, if desired)
