Give Out Day: Leo's Somos Familia Fundraiser!

Hi everyone,

My name is Leonel and I am a volunteer with Somos Familia.  Somos Familia is a second family to me. They have played a major part in my life since moving up to the Bay Area.  Before leaving SoCal, I didn't know it would be possible to find an organization that centers its work on LGBTQ+ acceptance in the Latinx community.  16 year old me was missing that when my parents found out that I was gay. Now 22 year old me, is in the process of coming out to his family as Trans, where language and lack of resources are major obstacles. Although it has been challenging talking to my parents about the LGBTQ+ community, I've been able to do it through the resources Somos Familia has to offer. I know that once the time comes, I will be ready to come out, because of their resources.

Today I am asking you to donate to the cause of Somos so that we can continue with our mission to build leadership in our Latinx families and communities to create a culture where people of diverse genders and sexual orientations can thrive.

 This year we will be using 50% of the funds raised on Give-Out Day for our COVID-19 relief fund, which provides financial assistance to people affected by the pandemic. The other 50% will be used to continue to do the lifesaving work of supporting, educating, and building leadership in LGBTQ+ Latinxs and their families.
