Help Us Build Green Garden Bakery 2.0
Green Garden Bakery is a youth-led social enterprise founded in 2014 by young people in North Minneapolis. For more than a decade, we’ve been much more than a bakery. We’ve been a place where young people find belonging, develop job skills, discover their leadership, and build a family that believes in them. We reinvest a third of everything we earn back into our community because that’s why we exist.
Today, our neighborhood is facing a new challenge. Families are living in unsafe housing with mold, rodents, termites, and deteriorating buildings. As people are forced to move, the community we’ve spent years building is being disrupted. The housing may be changing, but we refuse to let the community disappear with it.
That’s why we’re raising $300,000 to build Green Garden Bakery 2.0: a year-long process of strategic planning, youth leadership, research, and community visioning to determine what comes next.
We want to become fully independent so young people can lead our own business, make our own decisions, and shape our own future. Whether that means preserving our current space, creating a new home, or reimagining how GGB serves the community, our goal is the same: protect what we’ve built while growing our impact as our neighborhood changes.
We’ve already proven what young people can do. We started as a fundraiser to support a neighbor, evolved into a youth-run business, opened our space as a food shelf during the pandemic, created community safety initiatives after George Floyd’s murder, and invested thousands of dollars and countless hours back into our neighborhood.
Now we’re ready for our next chapter.

This campaign is about more than sustaining a bakery. It’s about investing in young people to determine what their community needs next and giving them the resources, time, and authority to build it.
Green Garden Bakery has become a beacon of hope for young people who need a safe place to belong and believe in themselves. With your investment, we can build GGB 2.0 and ensure that no matter what happens to the neighborhood, the community, opportunities, leadership, and hope we’ve created can continue for the next generation.
Our friends at Metro Blooms have agreed to be our 501C3 fiscal sponsor during our year of strategic planning.
We’re not asking you to save a bakery. We’re asking you to invest in a generation of young people who have already shown what’s possible when they’re trusted to lead. Buildings may change, but community doesn’t have to. Help us build GGB 2.0.
