We appreciate the amount of support we have reached so far! Please help us keep the momentum going. Our fundraiser has been extended through December 4th- so you still have time to let your friends know about this opportunity to help homeless Indigenous youth in Los Angeles.

Thank you,

Winter Solstice Kalli Urgent Relief: Donate to Homeless Indigenous students at Anahuacalmecac.

The State of California defines “homeless children and youth” in accordance with McKinney-Vento Act as: “individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.””

We are living in a pandemic.  COVID-19 has amplified the impacts of capitalism in our communities- hurting our families in the most unfortunate ways and exacerbating already existing social inequalities. Caretakers are being left out of their jobs and being harshly economically hit. Families are losing their homes without access to shelter. Our youth and their families are being impacted with loss and grief but with limited to no access to mental health.

Since the beginning of the pandemic Tzicatl Community Development Corporation and Semillas Sociedad Civil have been engaged with the Community Reclamation Coalition upon a widespread call to action to support all of our community residents especially Indigenous, undocumented, and houseless during the pandemic.

Today, Anahuacalmecac is reaching out to our support communities to help us raise enough money for the Winter Solstice Kalli Urgent Relief: an effort to uplift resiliency in our communities by providing immediate economic hardship relief for our students suffering from houselessness during this capitalist disaster.  Houseless in a city where over 150+ housing properties are vacant.

In addition to the urgent relief we would like to aid our homeless students with, we would like to honor the resiliency of each and one of our Xinaxtli by giving them a sweatshirt with their school logo. The COVID-19 pandemic and health guidelines for prevention have transitioned our students from learning in a social-cultural setting to a social distancing learning environment- many of them feeling left out of a social landscape and without the opportunity to socialize and affectionately connect with their friends.  It is true that home is where the heart is, and we want our students to know and feel that our heart is with them, especially during these trying times. We hope to help strengthen their connection to their fellow classmates while learning at a distance and in symbolic unity.

We are reaching out today in hopes that you help us meet our fundraising goal this Giving Tuesday with the purpose to raise money for direct support for our families impacted by the amplification of capitalism during COVID-19.
