Meet Emily

Before Emily came to Brave, she knew little to nothing about coding, but it was clear she was passionate about making a lasting impact on her community.

By attending BraveCamp, a one-week immersive, fun program where girls from under-represented communities learn to code, Emily worked on a team with other girls to develop an app called Good Waste.  Good Waste provides opportunities for people to sell their “garbage” to be re-purposed and made into something new.  Emily then went on to build a website to help spread her ideas about how and where waste can be useful.

At BraveCamp, Emily was able to identify issues she saw in her community, think about the root causes of the problems, and work with a team to build a product that brings relief to the issue at hand.  She gained an indelible introduction to coding that will open her up to boundless other opportunities in technology and life overall.

We believe every girl has boundless potential but not boundless opportunities.  Brave's goal next year is to help 250 girls - like Emily has - gain access to the world of coding to dream bolder and reach their full potentials.   My goal as a Brave Board Member is to raise $10,000 to enable 25 of these girls to go through the life-changing experience at Brave.

For $408, you will enable a girl to attend BraveCamp.  You can make donations of smaller or larger amounts as well.  When you sponsor a girl, Brave pools your sponsorship donation with other sponsors for maximum impact to meet the student's needs.
