Ride Ragbrai for Team Alma

It’s not all about the pie…..but, pie sure does help me pedal my bike across Iowa!

Here we go again......I’m leaving July 21 with TEAM ALMA on RAGBRAI-2017.

It’ll be my fourth time on this crazy ride.              

Why? 

The easy answer is I ride to raise funds for the Alma Center.  

The Alma Center is a pioneering and national award-winning program supporting men who have a history of violence to engage in their own process of healing transformation and break the cycle of before it passes to the next generation.

TEAM ALMA has raised more than $30,000 over the past three years in support of this important work.  I’m so proud to have been a part of this effort, and this reason alone would be more than enough motivation to sit my behind on a bike seat for 400+ miles each year. 

But truth is, I also ride to heal myself.  

The first time I said yes to this crazy adventure, I was in the midst of a very tough and tumultuous year.Something about the idea of a whole week outside, on my bike, in the middle of no-where (sorry Iowa!), with pedaling being the only way to get home…. spoke to me.  

I’m so glad I listened. 

I remember a time in my childhood when biking and playing was truly the only thing I had to do.  It feels absolutely magnificent to return to that time for one week each year.  Pure Joy! (With a little literal pain in the butt, and no actual problems, so pure joy none-the-less J)

Here’s what I know -- I cannot possibly work with others on their healing, if I am not also working on myself.

I bike RAGBRAI because laugher and play fuels my soul, and I need that!

So, I’m looking forward to yet another year of pie, cornfields, rootbeer floats and pork on a stick.  

Oh right.  There is more to RAGBRAI than the food -- be sure to follow all of TEAM ALMA’s antics posted here and on the Alma Center page.
