We are under way!
The project is under way, but we can still use your donations. Last week we poured the concrete slab. We worked a couple of hours on Friday October 2 to lay out the walls. Saturday the 3rd we had a good crew of volunteers on hand and got the structure built (walls, siding, rafters, roof sheeting, paint, and the first part of the trim). Naomi and friends served up a great breakfast of chorizo and eggs, fresh fruit, pan dulce, and refreshing beverages. Lunch was ceviche tostadas. On Monday the 5th we expect to have the exterior finished, windows and door installed, and rough electrical completed. The two teen boys who will occupy the dormitorio upon completion have been great workers, and they are learning a lot from working with experienced construction guides. Consider coming alongside us as we help this local missionary couple provide a comfortable and secure home for these boys.
Gonzalo and Naomi have been ministering to people in need in the area of Maneadero, Baja California Mexico for years. They serve the elderly, at-risk teens, and others. They recently became aware of two teen boys that needed a safe place to stay and they took them in so that they could continue their schooling. We are building a 12 foot by 16 foot stand alone building to give them a bedroom and study room with some privacy, and it will also include a shower and sink. There is a separate building next to the site that has a toilet and sink for their use. The structure will be simple, but comfortable and secure. It will be wood frame construction with T111 textured siding, insulation, drywall, electrical, limited plumbing, 3 windows, and a door. We also hope to furnish it with 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 chairs, curtains, and a rug. This is an unusual project in that we have already committed to it by pouring the concrete slab, and scheduled the construction for the weekend of October 2-5. We are trusting that funds will come in to cover the expenses, but we will cover the basic construction costs from revenues Baja Power and Light has received from rentals of our beach houses in Lengueta Arenosa. Donations received will allow us to do the extra things, and if we get more than is needed for that.......we will be able to apply ministry funds to other projects, and there are many needed and worthwhile projects to complete.
