Hi everybody! My name is Khushbu Bhakta, and I am currently at the end of my second and final year of graduate school for speech-language pathology (SLP). As I have continued my training to become an SLP, I have had the privilege of working with individuals with aphasia, an acquired language disorder, usually resulting from stroke or brain injury. Working with these individuals and their families has been an incredible and motivating experience. The aphasia community is filled with strength, determination, and positivity, and these individuals continue to inspire me every day.
By participating in the Fitness for Aphasia fundraising team, I hope to raise awareness of what aphasia is, how to better communicate with people with aphasia, and raise money for this amazing community. In addition, I pledge to complete 120 minutes of cardiovascular activity per week for four weeks to promote awareness for stroke-prevention and better cardiovascular health.
Please help by learning the basics of what aphasia is, watching/sharing some stories of persons with aphasia that will be posted, taking note of how to better communicate with persons with aphasia, and by donating! Any donation amount is useful and very appreciated. 100% of proceeds will be donated directly to the American Aphasia Society.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to learn about aphasia, donate, and email/share my page on social media. You are already helping to speak for a community who, for many, cannot speak for themselves.
