This October 28th, I'm running the Marine Corps Marathon – 26.2 miles through our Nation’s capital - in support of an awesome non-profit, Burma Humanitarian mission. l'll join more than 30,000 runners in this amazing endeavor! I have joined a team called “Run for Burma.”  This team is dedicated to raise awareness and funds for a wonderful non-profit -- Burma Humanitarian Mission (www.burmamission.org).

In eastern, northern and western Burma, the regime has continued its violence against the ethnic minorities. On a nearly daily basis, the Burma army attacks minorities.  You may have seen or heard of the atrocities committed against the Rohingya from August 2017 onward.  Human rights groups report more than 10,000 civilians murdered by the Burma army.

In this environment, without medical care, 3 out of 10 children die before their 5th birthday. Malaria, an illness that is curable, is the leading cause of death.  60% of all children’s’ deaths could be prevented with basic medicine.

In the face of such brutality, Burma Humanitarian Mission recruits, trains, equips and deploys backpack medics to provide village health care to Burma’s ethnic minorities. Where the teams operate, infant mortality has been reduced from 135 deaths per 1,000 births to just 1.5 / 1,000! Child mortality is down 60% -- it’s the power of trained medics with medicine.

As part of the Run for Burma team, I’m running to raise awareness and funds for the medics. Each $1 will buy 40 doses of medicine.$5 will cure a pregnant woman of malaria – saving 2 lives. $25 will buy the penicillin needed for a backpack medic team for six months – treating 2,400 people. Thanks so much for your support!
