Max Engel-JTF Fundraiser

Hello! I'm Max Engel and I am part of the Jewish Teen Foundation. This is a program that teaches us teens to become philanthropists and raise money for a specific cause that we are passionate about. I'm very excited to be part of this program once again and meet people and have experiences that I will never forget. This year is special because I am on the Leadership board where I am taking on more responsibilities and assisting fellow board members in their work. The population that we are committed to helping this year is those who have experienced domestic violence:

The Jewish Teen Foundation is committed to supporting people affected by domestic violence through organizations/initiatives that provide direct services and preventative measures to ensure physical and mental safety for all.

Some facts you might not know about domestic violence:

• In California, more than 20 thousand women a year seek help for domestic violence related issues, according to Shalom Bayit.
• Every 15 seconds, someone experiences domestic violence, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
• During the COVID pandemic, domestic violence has gotten worse as a result of people staying home more often, according to the New England Journal of Medicine.

The issue of domestic violence intrigues me because it is a very relevant issue in relationships, especially during the pandemic. As a board, we decided to support this population because it often gets overshadowed by other issues. Although there are many important issues needed to be tackled, as a board, we agreed that this is a unique one that deserves all of our immediate attention. With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need help the most.
