"Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done" (Justice Louis Brandeis). I joined Jewish Teen Foundation because This year SPJTF mission supports projects that protect and restore at-risk and marginalized communities after human-caused and natural catastrophes locally, in Israel and abroad. Here are facts that you may not know:
- On September 1, 2017, one-third of Houston was underwater with two feet of rain falling in the first 24 hours, forcing 39,000 people out of their homes and into shelters.
- 75,000 residents, about a quarter of the city’s population, were evacuated from 11 neighborhoods during the Haifa fires in 2016.
- The Tubbs fire began Oct. 8 2017 and grew to over 36,000 acres in 36 hours burning dried forest along its path.
- The effects of age and disability on disaster vulnerability were clearly seen among elderly individuals trapped in nursing facilities during Hurricane Katrina. Moreover, it is estimated that individuals ages 65 and older represented over 70 percent of the fatalities from Hurricane Katrina.
I care about our cause because it can happen to any one of us and the idea of losing everything that makes someone feel safe and secure is unimaginable to me. Please consider donating to our cause so that you can help those in need right now. My personal fundraising goal is $1, 600 and our group goal is $60,000. Every amount helps whether large or small, and it is important to me to get the word out to as many people as possible. Thank you very much for your donation!
