Annie's Hope - The Center for Grieving Kids

$1,275

raised by 29 people

$1,000 goal

OTF Concord will be collecting donations throughout the month of November to support Annie's Hope - The Center for Grieving Kids. Coach Alicia has been a volunteer with Annie's Hope since 2009 and helped our Concord team create ideas throughout the month to support Annie's Hope during Children's Grief Awareness Month!

A 90 minute donation class will happen on November 15th at 7 am with Coach Alicia and ALL class on November 19th will be "wear blue" on CGA Day! Coach Alicia will be back on Concord this Thursday for the classes.

You can donate using this link or in studio! The studio is also creating a memory wall so that members have the opportunity to share about the person/people that have died in their own lives. Ask the front desk for a butterfly to add to the memory wall!

Please join us in watching Brandon and Riley talk about their experience death and the support provided by Annie's Hope.

The COVID-19 crisis is particularly devastating for kids and families who were already suffering from anxiety, fear, and isolation due to grief. Their pain is magnified by constraints on social interaction and health-related fears. The families experiencing deaths during this time of physical distancing endure unimaginable heartache in addition to their grief. Kids and adults are forced to function without the comforting presence of family and friends, embraces of support, or hands to hold. Grieving the death of a parent, sibling, best friend, or loved one has never felt as lonely and isolating as it does right now, kids and families need not despair! The dedicated, compassionate staff and volunteers of Annie's Hope are available. We are responding to all who need grief support with safe programs adapted to meet distancing standards. Current offerings include:

  • School Support Groups - meeting via Zoom or online platforms using Student Activity Kits (delivered or mailed to homes)
  • Family Support Groups - adult groups are meeting via Zoom and staff are preparing to convene kids' groups in the coming weeks
  • Horizons anticipatory grief visits - occur online via Zoom using Family Tool Kits (delivered to homes)
  • Annie's Hope YouTube Channel - video instructions for grief support activities and books from our Community Resource Library read aloud by staff and friends of Annie's Hope
  • Professional Education and Speaker’s Institute - live and pre-recorded educational seminars on the topic of childhood grief
  • virtual Camp Courage and Camp Courage Teens (coming in June)

Grief support and resources for parents, teachers, caregivers, or any adult is available by phone (314) 965-5015 and email kidsgriefmatters@annieshope.org.

The demand for programs is likely to increase dramatically when we reconvene in-person. Shortfalls in fundraising due to postponed events, canceled programs, and foundations shifting focus may affect our ability to reach all the kids who need support from Annie's Hope.

Please help grieving kids feel less isolated by participating in our OTF Concord CGAD!
