Festival of Services - Christmas Food Event

HOSEA HELPS EVERYDAY

The latest census reveals Atlanta’s overall poverty rate sits at 24%. For Atlanta’s African American population, the poverty rate stands at 33%. As a direct consequence, food insecurity is pervasive in Atlanta.

Hosea Helps is a multi-faceted Human Services organization founded in 1971 by Civil Rights icon Rev. Hosea Williams and his wife Juanita. For over 50 years Hosea Helps has been at the forefront of fighting food insecurity and homelessness in the Atlanta area. We have built an extensive volunteer network and work with a wide network of both public and corporate partners to implement our programs. We provide wrap around Human Services & counseling keyed to offering a hand up (not hand out) to Atlanta’s low-income households. 

Research shows that the Holidays are a time of need, stress, anxiety and hunger for millions of low-income families’ the fullest meaning of peace and joy is simply this: not having to worry about how to provide food, shelter, and heat for loved ones. For 50 years Hosea Helps has understood this fact and has created our Festival of Services Holiday events (Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK birthday, Easter, Back to School) to gain access to families in need. Food insecurity is our portal to families while providing a healthy and positive holiday experience to allow families to not stress over their income inequality issues, while enjoying the holidays. 

This event serves over 1,000 low-income families and encompasses

• Preparation and Distribution of Hot Holiday Meals and Take-Home Groceries
• Distribution of Household Essentials & Personal Care Items (Hygiene/Toiletry Kits), PPE’s 
• Human Services support & counseling
• Health Care Services – utilizing volunteer doctors, nurses and health care professionals 
• Employment Assistance - In partnership with the Georgia Department of Labor and other agencies 
• Pro Bono Legal Services
• Free Haircuts & Styling
