The Tuxedo Project Literacy and Community Center is on Tuxedo street in the Livernois and Grand River neighborhood. It stands in the shadow of the famous St. Cecilia in a neighborhood that was forgotten long ago. It is here that a neighborhood is discovering their voice and standing in their power. Programming includes reading/discussion groups and writing workshops. Neighbors drop in to use the computer center to use email, search for jobs, and complete online training. Children find a safe space to read a book or two, play or use the wifii to complete their homework. The neighborhood block club meets to discuss the neighborhood's needs and solutions. It's a gathering place on holidays and during the summer connecting people in the neighborhood with those from surrounding suburban communities drawn to the energy at 7122 Tuxedo Street.
It's also the space where I began to find the power in the words that flowed from my pen to paper. Join me in supporting the Tuexedo Project in their first Write-A-Thon. Your support will enable the Tuxedo Project to continue their much needed programming in a neighborhood that is finding their strength in their voice. All donations are appreciated. Please contact me directly if you prefer to make an offline donation.
