It's been a long, and often difficult, road to completing the Hillburn Village home.  Soon after the build began COVID struct and our normal construction process went out the window.  Work was paused and then shut-down completely.  Materials became expensive and difficult to come by and our gift-in-kind donations began to dry up.  The worst, our loyal volunteers that we depend on greatly throughout our builds couldn't come to the worksite due to COVID safety restrictions.  Months of progress were lost.  Then, slowly our building resumed.  Often only one carpenter at the build site on a given day starting up the renovation again.  After months of the home sitting quiet, the wonderful sound of hammering and sawing could be heard again.  Our volunteers have again joined beside us with even greater determination.  Now we are just months away from finishing the renovation and anxiously await that day when we can hand over the keys to the Aguillard family so they can begin moving towards a brighter future.

A single mom, Latoya and her two young teenage sons where living in a substandard housing situation.  Their apartment was cramped for the three of them and the apartment complex’s surrounding area was unsafe due to drug use and shootings.  When the boys were home they weren’t permitted outside.  These are the families who now more than ever need the hand up that we can provide. Even in these times — especially in these times — we continue to work tirelessly toward our vision where the hard working families in our community of Rockland County can have a decent and safe place to live.

Let's finish this home together....share your support on Facebook and Twitter by telling everyone about our A Community Thrives fundraiser event and help us spread the word that today is the day to start giving to Habitat of Rockland.

Habitat for Humanity of Rockland is a nonprofit, interfaith housing ministry that works in partnership with families in need, without regard to religion or ethnicity, to improve the condition in which they live.

A word about our...

Neighborhood Revitalization Project

Neighborhood Revitalization expands Habitat's traditional partnership with new homeowners and volunteers to include neighbors and partnering with local organizations for a far greater impact in the communities served. While home construction continues to play a vital role, a bigger toolbox that includes repairs and other services allows Habitat to serve more families. The programs, A Brush with Kindness and Critical Care, offer a service that helps low income homeowners who can not afford necessary upkeep to preserve their home and remain living with pride and dignity. Under Habitat of Rockland's Critical Care Program we provide partially subsidized handicapped ramps for disabled seniors and those with disabilities, especially for low income and fixed income individuals in our community.
