Thanks to the Texas Health Fort Worth NICU Palliative Care fund, families who experience neonatal or fetal loss have access to resources and services critical to navigating grief. During such a heartbreaking time, this fund supports efforts for families to know that they are not alone and provide them with the space, time, and resources to say goodbye.
The fund supports initiatives such as providing memory-making supplies and acquiring equipment that allows families additional time to grieve, as well as sustaining existing projects.
Among those meaningful projects is the new Monarch Room at Texas Health Fort Worth, a space created for families experiencing neonatal or fetal loss.
The palliative care room, located in the antepartum unit, is the second palliative care room at Texas Health Fort Worth. The McCoy family helped fund the first palliative care room, the Butterfly Room, which opened in 2014, in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in memory of Siena Grace, one of their twins, who passed away at Texas Health Fort Worth 14 years ago. Their experience inspired them to start the palliative care fund at Texas Health Fort Worth, which helped pay for the second room.
“Although Siena Grace is no longer with us here on earth, her life has inspired us to create a space for families to spend their last moment with their loved ones,” said Denae McCoy, mother of Siena Grace.
“We hope the comfort of the room helps families feel like they can have friends and loved ones with them,” said Brian McCoy, father of Siena Grace. “This room continues to keep our daughter’s memory alive and allowed us to give back to an organization that helped us.”
Your support of the NICU Palliative Care Fund helps families feel supported rather than isolated and empowers the medical team to provide deeply meaningful care without hesitation.
