We have a recycling club at Mesquite Elementary School in Casa Grande. When the city stopped recycling two years ago our club kept recycling.
These are the recycling numbers for the last school year:
8-15-20 to 5-15-21
#1 Plastic
10,977 lbs. $1097.70
Aluminum
2,586 lbs. $1658.05
Metal
2,124 lbs. $124.06
Paper 38,540 lbs. $488.75
Summer Recycling
(May 20 – Aug. 4)
#1 Plastic 2,077 lbs. $207.70
Aluminum 603 lbs. $427.10
Metal 179 lbs. $5.00
(Summer Total = $639.80)
Total = $4010.06
We donated $3,000 to our local food bank and $1000 to the local humane society. We teach our students about community service and helping other people.
We have already made $448.50 since May 25, 2021. We could recycle even more in our community, but we need funds to build bins to hold the cans and bottles. Once we have these bins, we have places to put them so other people in our community will have better access to recycling. Until we have more bins, all of those cans and bottles are being thrown away.
We have volunteers who help our program, which enables us to expand and save more cans and bottles from the landfill. Your support is greatly appreciated!
