Hudson Valley Gives 2023

Grace Smith House has been an open door in the Hudson Valley Community for the past 42 years, providing services to individuals and families dealing with domestic violence. 

Grace Smith House is a private nonprofit that provides residential and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence and their families. We offer shelter, individual/group counseling, transitional housing, court accompaniment advocacy, transportation, preventive education and more to the residents of Dutchess County, NY. 

Our hotline is available 24/7 at 845-471-3033 where all services are free and confidential for victims of domestic violence. Grace Smith House accepts requests for help regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, orientation, age or disability. 

Our Mission:

To enable individuals and families to live free from domestic violence by: 

Providing shelter, advocacy, counseling and education

Raising the consciousness of the community regarding the extent, type and seriousness of domestic violence

Initiating and taking positions on public policies in order to provide options which empower victims of domestic violence. 

In 2022, Grace Smith House:

• Provided emergency shelter and services to 66 women, one man and 70 children.
• Fielded 1,918 calls to our 24-hour hotline.
• Served 19 adults and 33 children in our transitional housing program.
• Provided advocacy and support services to 188 adults and 64 children in our non-residential program.
• Educated 4,025 middle and high school students about bullying, teen dating violence and more.
• Provided bilingual services to 73 Latina/Latino clients.
• Helped file 850 Orders of Protection in family court.
• Accompanied 157 victims of domestic violence to court, a total of 440 times.
• Educated 283 healthcare providers about domestic violence.
• Had to turn away 574 requests for shelter due to lack of space.
