There is a crucial need to sustain the operations of the WSO and your support will ensure a sustainable mission of artistic growth, vision, and community service. A gift of $250 to our campaign will fund two Youth Orchestra students' tuition for the Fall semester and will help support our complimentary educational programming during the coronavirus pandemic.
To continue its mission in music education during the coronavirus pandemic, the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra designed an 8-week virtual education program for the Fall 2021 Semester. Beginning in October, Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra students will attend 50-minute complimentary virtual education classes that will include topics like:
- Musical Encounters (engaging talks suitable for all WSYO students):
- Analysis of Music from the Conductor’s Standpoint
- Scoring a Silent Movie and Telling the Story
- Maintaining a Healthy Long-term Relationship with Music
- Clarinet and its Prowess (possible expansion to all woodwinds)
- Tricks of the Trade
- 50-minute break-out sessions guided by WSO Principal Players concentrating on music prepared by the Youth Orchestra. Students will be given insight and techniques to more effectively practice and perform the music.
- Master Classes with nationally recognized artists.
The Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra, Junior Strings and Rockestra will tentatively return to in-person rehearsals at UNCW in the Spring of 2021 per CDC guidelines.
Won't you help your local orchestra get through this pandemic?
