"Tzedakah is based on the sense that justice requires sharing. Wealth is not so much a reward for past good deeds as an opportunity for future ones. In sum, the concept of tzedakah says: the more money, the more responsibility." - Rabbi Reuven Kimelman
I have had the opportunity and the pleasure to be a part of the North Peninsula Jewish Teen Foundation for the first time. Collectively, we are a group of 24 dedicated teens who work together to learn about philanthropy, learn how to be an active board member, and how to come to a consensus. Through the Jewish Teen Foundation (JTF) we fundraise and allocate grants and give to both Jewish and non-Jewish organizations locally, globally, and in Israel. JTF has also allowed me to connect more to my Jewish community and my Jewish values. My brother Max participated in JTF for three years, and continues to advocate for his beliefs through JTF today. I wanted to get involved in something bigger than myself, and JTF was the perfect fit for me.
Since I grew up in a household where Tzedakah and giving to local organizations is a norm, I have had the pleasure of being involved with many non-profit organizations for my entire life. Through all of my experiences working one on one with the less fortunate, I feel a strong moral obligation to give back to those who need our help. Through JTF I have gotten to advocate for my beliefs and values, and help to incorporate my voice into something bigger that will help people around the world.
Our mission this year is to promote positive social change by protecting the environment and responding to the needs of people affected by environmental problems locally, globally and in Israel. I care deeply for this cause because throughout the past year, our world has been devastated by natural disasters; hurricanes, fires, and earthquakes have caused millions to be displaced and hurt, losing their homes and loved ones to these disasters. In the Bay Area, we have experienced fires in Northern California, affecting our loved ones and our environment. I feel the need to help those who cannot help themselves, and who have lost everything. Did you know that Hurricane Harvey damaged 203,000 homes, of which 12,700 were completely destroyed? And here in the Bay Area, thousands lost their homes in the Sonoma County fires, and desperately need - - and still need -- help. The North Peninsula JTF is working to help those who are affected by these disasters and we are considering many non-profit organizations that will deal with these pressing issues in effective and efficient ways.
We deeply appreciate and thank you for giving your time and money to our cause. Any amount is incredibly helpful; all donations are tax-deductible and all funds will go directly to helping people who have been hurt by natural disasters. By donating, you are funding communities locally, globally, and in Israel; as well as providing support to our education about philanthropy and leadership. Please direct your donations to this Razoo page.
