Update: Hania passed away on 11/4/20. The children are now grieving their mom, and their dad is struggling more than ever. Malaysia is not safe for refugees, and they are desperate to get to Canada. The good news is that they have a sponsor and all the many bureaucratic details are in order! We only need to raise a year's worth of living expenses--all the financials are itemized below. Millions of refugees are desperate and the world is a mess--there is need everywhere, and it's overwhelming, I know. For me, it has been really meaningful to direct my help in this way, and to get to know this family. Thank you for donating if you are able.

Meet Hania* and Suleman*, who live with their three beautiful children (aged 10, 14, 15) in Malaysia. Let's get them to Canada!

  • The kids have big dreams that can only come true in Canada! They want to be a doctor, an engineer, and a pastor.  They are devout Christians, forced to flee Pakistan in 2013 due to a false blasphemy charge against Suleman, which carries a death sentence.
  • Hania has Stage 4 breast cancer. We've raised funds for her treatment, and now we need to get her to Canada for access to better care.
  • Suleman is diabetic, and struggles to get the medication he needs to survive; in Canada his health care will be covered.
  • The kids are always hungry. In Malaysia Suleman can't work legally and struggles to put food on the table; in Canada Suleman will be able to work and sustain them.
  • They live in constant fear of the frequent immigrant crackdowns in Malaysia—Suleman would be arrested, possibly deported, which risks being caught and tried for blasphemy in Pakistan.
  • The kids study hard and have big dreams that can only come true in Canada. They want to be a doctor, an engineer, and a pastor—but they will never have these opportunities while living in Malaysia. In Canada they will get an excellent education and the world will open up for them.

There is a team ready to sponsor and support them when they arrive.  It's  a miracle that all of these pieces fell into place!

All we need now are the funds required by the Canadian government to apply for private sponsorship. We're urgently raising money to start the application process, which will take about 2 years.

Please consider donating and sharing with your networks. Thank you!

(*To protect their safety, we changed their names)

This is the story of how they've survived—and their hope of starting a new life in a safe place.

Hania had some complications after her mastectomy in August.

They fled because of a false blasphemy charge against Suleman, which carries a death sentence in Pakistan. The charge came from a contractor he hired and demanded to be paid more than the agreed upon price.  The contractor stalked the family and threatened to kidnap the children. When he charged Suleman with blasphemy, they had no choice but to flee.

In Malaysia, Suleman is not allowed to work legally and struggles to keep his family safe. Before covid, he would take any under-the-table job he could get—usually unloading trucks—but the virus dried up the jobs. Hania is now unable to work due to illness.

They cannot make ends meet, even while sharing a small apartment with another family.  Their kids are always hungry.

This is "N," age 10 during his exams this summer. And they have big dreams! They study hard in school and they want to be a doctor, an engineer, and a pastor—but they will never have these opportunities while living as refugees in Malaysia.

Suleman and Hania want their kids to have a better education and live free from oppression. That's why they wanted to live in Canada, even before Hania was diagnosed with cancer—now they are racing to get there so she can receive world-class treatment.

They see Canada as their best chance to survive.

A church in British Columbia will support this family when they arrive.

We are raising the amount needed to support them  for one year while they become self-sufficient. Suleman works very hard, is extremely resourceful, and will no doubt find successful work in Canada.

Time is passing and they need this money urgently.
