Singers Spirit - Alexandria Community Shelter

Share your spirit for the season! As you reflect on the year, please consider contributing to the Singers' efforts to brighten the spirits of those at the Alexandria Community Shelter.

The Alexandria Community Shelter is a City-owned, 65-bed emergency shelter provided for men, women, and families.

Every holiday season, The Singers collect wrapped gifts and cash donations during our holiday performances and deliver the gifts to the shelter residents the following week as we perform for them and bring them a bit of holiday cheer through our gift of song! This year we're extending this season of giving through this online resource, allowing all who wish to contribute to the cause from across the globe to give. Your donations through The Alexandria Singers will help us provide a bit of warmth and kindness in their time of need.

Please note, all financial donations are made to The Alexandria Singers [a 501(c)3 organization] with the intention to use 100% of the contribution, after online processing fees, towards shelter giving. Online donations are presented to the shelter in many forms: purchased gifts of cold weather clothing and accessories, purchased gifts of housing needs per the shelter's request, and a remaining balance donation in cash or check to the shelter to use for toiletries, supplies, and holiday celebration as needed. If you'd prefer to give a physical gift, donations will be collected at our holiday pops concerts, which we'd love for you to attend. "Celebrate" takes place Dec. 6-7, 2019 at Groveton Baptist Church, 6511 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria. Guide for physical gift giving through the Singers to the Alexandria Community Shelter:

Please wrap your gift, label it either male (M) or female (F), and include the size of the item if applicable (L-3X is preferred for men, M-2X is preferred for women). 

Though the shelter does host families, the need is higher for adult gifts as the shelter has other resources for toys and kids' gifts. The shelter cannot accept food donations due to storage space available and City health department regulations. Below is a list of items the shelter has indicated over the years are most useful. NEW condition items are the only physical gifts accepted, in all cases.
