For the first time since Girls Rock NC was founded in 2004, we are unable to hold our music-based youth empowerment summer camps. We are looking forward to serving our community in new ways this summer through free and accessible online programming for our young folks, but income from our in-person summer camps are what sustain our youth programs and advocacy year-round.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot in good faith hold in-person camp for the sake of our broader community's health and safety, which means we will be offering refunds to our camper families, as so many of us are financially struggling due to loss of income and job loss.
We are asking now for the support of those who can help GRNC keep the lights on in 2020. If you are able, please give so that we can offer accessible and meaningful programs to girls, trans youth, and gender-nonconforming youth in Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and beyond—now and in the future. Our campers deserve safe creative spaces now more than ever, and you can help us continue to provide that space.
