Ramadan Mubarak! As we begin this special month, I want to encourage you to support Mosaic Georgia, the Gwinnett County Child Advocacy and Sexual Assault Center.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Sexual and physical violence and abuse are not pleasant, lighthearted topics of conversation. Yet, they happen. They happen more than we like to think, even in our very own community.
1 in 10 children are sexually abused and 1 in 7 children are physically abused and/or maltreated in the U.S. 90% of child sexual abuse victims know their abuser as a relative or friend. Trauma from the abuse has lasting effects on a survivor's mental health and physical wellbeing even when they get older. In fact, more than 60% of survivors experience suicidal ideations and are 3 times more likely to commit suicide.
As alarming as these figures are, there is hope. We have tremendous power in addressing the problem of child abuse through awareness, prevention, education, and support for victims and survivors.
Your donation helps Mosaic Georgia provide:
-A 24/7 Crisis Line 866-900-6019 for victims of assault or abuse or those who want to help them.
-Victim & Family Advocacy during and after disclosing assault or abuse.
-Forensic Interviews for children and youth by investigators trained in pediatric trauma care.
-Medical Forensic Examinations & Care in our medical center - not a hospital or police station - by medical staff who are specially trained to work with trauma victims.
-Legal Assistance for safety and civil issues after the assault or abuse.
-Counseling Support & Wellness Programs to cope with trauma and begin the healing journey.
-All of these services are free to survivors. No fees.
Together, we can help survivors put the pieces of their lives back together with dignity, safety, health, and justice.
Thank you and JazakAllahu Khayr!
